Kate Cubley • Founder
Kate Cubley is an award winning researcher and professional voice and breath coach based in the UK. Her primary clientele include singers, speakers, voice artists and athletes. Since 2011, Kate has been training vocalists using bespoke methods to obtain the best results for each individual or group. Her belief is that there is no one-size-fits-all approach. This demands her a natural curiosity that led her to seek training in several different, yet complementary, teaching models and coaching strategies. In her work as a Senior Lecturer, private vocal coach, choral conductor, singing teacher and breathing instructor, Kate has tutored 1000’s students including professional and developing singers, entrepreneurs, business owners, voice teachers, team leaders, postgraduate researchers, athletes, SLT and SLP’s, ENT surgeons and manual therapists.
During the past 10 years, Kate’s academic research has chiefly focused on vocal health, wellness, anatomy, alignment and function. Her continued passion is to help her clients to build resilience, find confidence and have loads of fun through their body, breath and voice whilst developing sustainable and magnatic performance skills.
As well as academic grounding, Kate also has personal awareness relating to the obstacles to performing, having suffered from lifelong anxiety which heightened on stage, halting her solo career in the 00’s. This subsequently caused her lucky segue into teaching. Later in 2011, Kate was diagnosed with Oral Allergy Syndrome and suffered severe allergy symptoms causing total voice loss through inflammation and anxiety-related Muscle Tension Dysphonia impacting her ability to present, teach and perform. Since then, Kate has spent over a decade working towards a sustainable solution to marry functional voice and breath practices with awareness and habilitation for the singing classroom. Her work on airborne allergies and voice health was presented at the largest climate change conference, COP28, held in Dubai where she proudly represented the PhD research happening at DMU.
She has also found the confidence to return to stage as a singer.
